Corrections and updates

When we get something wrong, or a story changes, we say so on the story itself.

Our policy

After a card is published we keep watching the original sources for changes, corrections and walk-backs.

If a change affects a card's accuracy or score, we update the card and add an entry to its Updated / Corrected log with the time (PT and ET), what changed, the old and new score, and the source.

Scores are updated honestly

If new evidence weakens a story, its score goes down, and we show both the old and the new score. We never quietly raise or lower a score without a log entry.

What counts as a correction

A correction fixes a factual error we made. An update reflects new information in a developing story. Both are logged with a timestamp; neither is silently edited out.

If a story is retracted by its original sources, we mark the card as withdrawn rather than deleting it.

Request a correction

Email [email protected] with the story link, what you believe is wrong, and a source. We review every request and reply when a change is made.
